A lonely tower stands in silence.<\/p>\n
Unkempt solitude grows out of its heart<\/p>\n
and escapes through the torn roof,<\/p>\n
no longer able to contain the ivy and weeds.<\/p>\n
Idle streets leisurely circle around the tower.<\/p>\n
Sometimes kittens unravel from its shade,<\/p>\n
and, with tiny tails swaying this way and that,<\/p>\n
lazily chase salamanders up the walls.<\/p>\n
Once in a while vague memories of battles won,<\/p>\n
and being a piece in the defense mechanism<\/p>\n
of the Spanish empire, invades it with nostalgia.<\/p>\n
Clots of windy sky bring summer showers,<\/p>\n
but the roofless tower doesn\u2019t care anymore.<\/p>\n
It had long since given up defending the world,<\/p>\n
only wishing for blue heavens and sunlight to warm its bones.<\/p>\n
But the sun wasn\u2019t interested<\/p>\n
in the watch tower these days<\/p>\n
and had long ago left it out<\/p>\n
of all its strategies and schemes,<\/p>\n
as it goes about the daily ordering of the universe.<\/p>\n
