Night soccer fieldReal Madrid or Barcelona? Ronaldo or Messi? These are typical questions you hear from Spaniards when they meet each other. As you can see, football in Spain is an important topic; it involves not only sports but also culture, lifestyle, and politics…

Football is Spain’s national sport and easily the country’s most important mass movement and spectator sport. Compared to Italians or English football football fans, the Spanish are among the top most fanatic in Europe. Almost every town has a football field because of the population’s love for football. A great number of families try to raise their children as football players; not only to play football as a hobby or an extracurricular activity but also as an investment for the future. The major clubs usually snap up these young players and coach them from an early age in their football schools.

Football is a sport mass movement and this is proven by the great number of sports newspaper dominated mainly by football. Football exceeds sports; and it is very common that even tabloids dedicate part of their coverage to the most famous football player’s private life. Also TV programs, that are entirely focused on football analyze every word or move by any football player or famous managers. In the end, we can say that only when Spain achieves major successes in other sports (tennis, Formula 1 motor race) will football take a secondary position!
