For the Matadero we met at the metro station of Legazpi at 11:00am. We met inside as Madrid decided to treat us with some wind and rain for the majority of morning. Once we had the group together we walked through the middle of the Matadero. Matadero translates to “slaughterhouse”. This is due to the fact that space was previously used as a slaughterhouse for the animals for the production of foods. The place is divided into what they call “ships”. Every ship has a different number and they are each used for different sorts of activities such as musicals, galleries, exhibitions, etc.
Once in the matadero gathered up for the traditional group picture with all the members who were able to assist to the event. The first exhibition we saw was a peculiar Italian exhibit. This Exhibit showed items from our daily life and were portrayed in an artistic form. We had a good glance of the gallery and the teachers got to take some interesting pictures of the different displays.
After watching the gallery we headed to the different ships to see if anyone offered a nice exhibit to see. Many of the ships had shows that were going to open at night so we did not get the chance of seeing them all. Similar was the case with a digital art show called “Pompeya”. We had a glance of the show through the entrance and some of the teachers took note for them to go back to the exhibit.
After a Failed attempt of watching more interesting galleries, we decided to go to the canteen to get a bite to eat and have a chat. The matadero canteen is huge and is similar to a canteen you can find in schools. It had a nice and cozy vibe. Some of the teachers had some hummus and chips while others drank their second coffee of the day. Much needed must I add.
Once we finished eating we walked back to the entrance where we talked for a bit and later waved goodbye. Regardless of the fact that we couldn’t see many of the exhibits that were on display due to the timing, we can consider this event as a successful one where we all got a good laugh and experiences. See you in the next one!
