CANTERBURY ENGLISH CONTRACT CONDITIONS: TEACHER COMMITMENT & POSITIVE ATTITUDE REQUIRED

SECTION ONE: TEACHER COMMITMENT

This is a contract translated from Spanish to English. In the English teaching profession, it is required to establish the length of contract time, which can be established orally, prior to the first day of English classes.

English classes begin at different periods of the year and usually end on or before June 30th. Therefore, it is necessary for a teacher to commit to this time period for the classes that he/she has accepted or until the end of their stay in Madrid if that is before said date. This condition applies equally to all teachers, regardless of the number of classes they may have.

CHRISTMAS VACATION: Classes stop for a two week Christmas vacation 2-3 working days before Christmas Day. Teachers should not leave early during the Christmas period. Vacation is from 2-3 working days before Christmas day until Kings Day (Reyes) on January 6th. Work starts again on January 7th.

After Christmas, classes continue until June 30th (or until the end of your stay here), with a one week vacation during Easter week (Semana Santa).

CONTRACT TERMINATION DATE (end of my stay): ________________________

  • Teachers have the option of doing summer classes or summer camps in July and/or August.
  • This contract is automatically renewed in September for those teachers who come back after the summer to teach for Canterbury English.

If a teacher has to return to their country of origin for any reason, they should give two weeks’ notice to their clients before stopping a class.

SECTION TWO: POSITIVE ATTITUDE REQUIRED OF CE TEACHERS

CE and the members of our team will go out of our way to help our teachers in as many ways as possible and we require a positive attitude from our teachers, while trying to solve problematic situations that may come up during the school year.

However, and in accordance with Spanish law, CE withholds the right to terminate (and will immediately terminate) a contract with a teacher at any time (with no refund, under no conditions, for the deposit and program fees paid at orientation) due to aggressive, threatening, negative or slanderous behaviour, either in writing or in person, towards CE in general and any member of the CE team.

CE tries its utmost to uphold humanitarian behaviour, goodwill and courtesy between teachers and staff members in the many different circumstances that may arise and expects the same from our teachers. We believe that any difficult situation can be dealt with in a civilized manner.

A teacher who is not able to uphold this ideal, will be immediately let go and their student visa terminated.

  • When a student is withdrawn from a university visa program, by law, the university or the Spanish school has the obligation to inform Extranjeria (the foreign office) that the person has been withdrawn and Extranjeria cancels the student visa and the student has approximately two weeks to leave the country.

In the extreme case that a CE teacher is offensive to CE staff and/or clients, our partner Spanish school’s staff and/or teachers or other CE teachers (which rarely ever happens, but has happened), we are obligated to initiate this withdrawal procedure in order to protect our organization, staff members, other teachers and clients from the person in question.

However, of the 7500 teachers who have come through our programs in the last 35 years, 99.9% are kind-hearted and considerate, caregiving teachers who want to live the Spanish adventure hand in hand with Canterbury English in a harmonious way.
