We met at the Avenida de America metro station at 11:00 am to catch the 223 bus to Alcalá de Henares. As the group arrived one by one we waited until 11:30 until deciding to leave. Many different teachers that didn’t know each other met so that was very helpful as new relationships and nice conversations developed. In this case, we were lucky that 2 friends of the teachers came with us, making the group even bigger. For these events being in big groups is very helpful as the teachers who have just arrived can get to know different people that are in similar situations to them.
After a 35 minute bus ride, we arrived at our first stop at the “Plaza de Cervantes” in the city center. There we took the classic tourist-like picture at the statue to show our mom’s and dad’s that we made it! The plaza is big and with very different type of trees that we don’t really get to see in the center of Madrid. So peculiar species that we had to google the tree to see their names. Right after that, we walked 5 minutes to the Casa de Cervantes. There, we got to see the recreation made in the 50’s of Miguel de Cervantes childhood’s home. There, the teachers took different pictures as the recreation was astonishing. After the visit was finished, we sat in one of the local restaurants and had a chat together.
After a long and joyful lunch, we continued our Alcalá journey and went to the University of Alcalá de Henares. This huge beautiful building is very famous as it is marked as a humanitarian patrimony by the Unesco. We got to take good pictures and the teachers had good fun. We then got to walk through one of Alcalá’s main streets filled with different souvenirs and funny tshirts
After a long day of tourism in Alcalá, we made our final stop in the catedral de “ los santos niños justo y pastor”. A beautiful cathedral sith sky high walls of classic spanish architecture. Unfortunately, the cathedral wasn’t open to the public so we had to settle seeing it from the outside.
At around 4:00 pm, we walked back to the bus stop where we finished our full day activity in Alcalá de Henares. It was a very good experience where we got to see the main parts of the city and learned about its most famous citizen in Miguel de cervantes. At the end, we could say that the trip was a success and the teachers will take home a nice experience and memory.
